Although released in Sony’s walkman segment with the ‘W’ tag (It’s supposedly the last phone to be released with it), the W995 is no less than a Sony Cyber-shot phone when it comes to camera performance. The W995 is a slider phone that is reasonably slim considering the features that it’s packed with. The phone comes in a solid black and silver color setting and the best thing is its very easy to handle which defies the notorious Sony image of being complicated and inscrutable. The W995 is also equipped with a stand that flips out and the phone can be made to lean for a photo shot or even for a casual lie on the table, if you don’t want the body scraping the ground.
The screen is 2.6” which is not so great for a camera phone but then it is not a camera phone! With a screen resolution of 240×320 pixels it makes for an acceptable standard although the resolution may seem a little lacking. The slider works amazingly well with the keypads beneath shaped like lozenges. In spite of being very slightly raised, they work with amazing accuracy and are spaced quite well. The front comes with a comfortable number of keys including a menu key, clear, call accept and end keys and two soft keys. The screen is auto rotate and will sit in whatever position the phone has been put in. The volume offered by the built in speakers is great and this time Sony has incorporated a change in the placing of the headphone jack which is now on the top right corner.
