More About The BlackBerry Torch 9800

Released in Aug 2010, BlackBerry Torch is one of the many smartphones that are looking for a place next to Android and iPhone. It’s one of the very first smartphone by RIM running on the OS 6. Though there are marked improvements over the previous versions, certain features truly make it stand out among the crowd. It does come as a much better product compared to the earlier ‘Storm’, however some critical flaws may hamper its growth in the market.

Its main feature being full syncing with Microsoft ExchangeMail and security, the phone has always been a favorite with the corporate world. Having the powerful BlackBerry Enterprise Server as its backend, contacts, calendar as well as tasks, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 is truly a business device.

The unique aspect of BlackBerry Torch 9800 is that it comes with a full touchscreen  as well as a hardware keyboard. Though there are several makers in the market who have tried to incorporate this, BlackBerry has completely managed to do this without compromising on the look of the device. The smartphone offers easy maneuver between the touchpad, touchscreen and the keyboard, making both browsing and texting quite easy to handle.

One of the most disappointing feature of the previous device was its poor web experience. Though BlackBerry has tried to fix this by integrating the Webkit browser with BlackBerry OS 6, its still not good enough. The pages do not load fast enough while browsing the net, making the whole experience quite frustrating. Apart from this, despite the integration of the web browser, most web pages display text as in the case of the old browser.

With 512 MB RAM, 4 GB built-in memory along with 4 GB microSD expandable up to 32 GB, the smartphone looks great for normal usage. Other features include the usual 5 megapixel camera, autofocus, GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth.
